Overview Footkaki is looking to hire a Professional Shoe Fitting Assistant / Apprentice . It’s similar to a retail assistant or retail associate role. We’re a team of professional shoe fitters in Katong, seeking a fellow kaki to help us serve people from all walks of life at our orthopaedic footwear shop. No experience is necessary—we welcome applicants from all backgrounds. You must be hands-on and share our values as we grow with the mission to serve the wider community. —About Footkaki Bootstrapped since 2018, Footkaki is a small family-run shop founded by Singapore’s first pedorthist. Our mission is to make professionally fitted medical footwear accessible and affordable to anyone who needs them. Footkaki is run by qualified members of the Society of Shoe Fitters (UK), a non-profit that provides healthy footwear advice. We offer a free professional foot assessment and measurement service to match customers to proper footwear for their medical needs and foot health information. As part of the Footkaki team, you will help provide a valuable service for visitors referred by hospitals, podiatrists, and medical clinics—and for anyone with painful foot problems. What you’ll do Assist the shoe fitting team with serving customers — e.g. cashiering, sales, managing and updating customer records. Host our visitors and kakis — e.g. make visitors feel welcome and at ease, ensure visitors don’t cut the queue. Customer service tasks — e.g. answering the phone, attending to WhatsApp messages, fulfilling orders. Simple inventory management — e.g. restocking shelves, counting stocks, requesting stock transfers. Basic housekeeping — assist with cleaning and sanitising footwear (a machine is provided). Daily tidying and a little TLC for the cats and dogs in the windows. Learn about Professional Shoe Fitting — read on and decide if this is a vocation you’re interested in. What you need to know It’s full-time onsite retail hours. Up to 40 hours a week. Shifts arranged for a 5-day workweek. Shop opening hours: Tuesday – Saturday 11:00 am – 8:00 pm; Sunday 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Weekend shifts are required. No work on Mondays and public holidays. One additional off day will be arranged per week. Starting salary begins at $2,100 per month. Salary is negotiable. Probation period of 3 months. Commission introduced after probation. 14 days of annual leave. Medical and hospitalisation leave provided. OK... what is Professional Shoe Fitting?It’s still retail/service work in Singapore. Customers can be demanding, but we’ve got each other’s backs. Some footwear products contain pigskin leather. Gloves are provided. You need to be ok with that. It’s work that keeps the body fit — you may climb step ladders, move shoeboxes, and kneel/squat fairly often. You will see many feet; most kakis have foot injuries, disabilities, or other complex conditions. It’s not a job for the squeamish. Apprenticeship & Further Training Pathway Complete on-the-job training is provided, but you should be open to learning on the job and possibly doing some self-study. This is a meaningful but demanding vocation. If you choose to pursue it you may have a pathway to train, support, and sponsor the candidate to attain professional shoe-fitting skills and qualifications. Someone with a growth mindset — you’ll learn about medical foot conditions and how footwear can aid rehabilitation. Knowledge evolves, so learning together as a team is key. Must be fluent in English . Additional languages like Mandarin, Bahasa Melayu, and dialects are helpful for communicating with non-English-speaking visitors. No experience is necessary — we’re looking for someone with good values and character.
