Senior Carpenter

Senior Carpenter is responsible for overseeing carpentry projects, leading a team, and ensuring the quality and precision of all woodwork. This role requires advanced carpentry skills, leadership, and the ability to manage multiple tasks on a job site. Below are the typical responsibilities and requirements for this position: Responsibilities Perform complex carpentry tasks such as framing, installing doors, windows, cabinets, and custom woodwork. Ensure the quality and precision of all carpentry work, following blueprints and architectural plans. Operate carpentry tools and machinery safely and efficiently. Lead and manage carpentry projects from start to finish, ensuring work is completed on schedule and within budget. Interpret and follow detailed construction blueprints and specifications. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other trades to coordinate project activities. Supervise and guide a team of carpenters, apprentices, and labourers on-site, providing training and direction as needed. Delegate tasks based on team members' skills and experience, ensuring efficient use of resources. Ensure all team members adhere to safety protocols and best practices on the job site. Inspect work done by junior carpenters and apprentices to ensure it meets quality standards and specifications. Address any issues or defects in carpentry work, ensuring timely corrections. Maintain high standards of craftsmanship and precision in all aspects of carpentry. Estimate material requirements for projects and ensure timely ordering and delivery of materials. Monitor the use of materials to avoid waste and ensure project cost-effectiveness. Maintain an inventory of tools, materials, and equipment, ensuring everything is in good working order. Ensure all carpentry work complies with relevant building codes, safety regulations, and company standards. Promote a safe work environment by enforcing safety procedures and ensuring all team members wear appropriate protective gear. Conduct safety meetings and ensure that the team is aware of potential hazards and the correct way to handle them. Troubleshoot and resolve construction-related issues that arise during carpentry work. Adapt plans or approaches when faced with unexpected challenges, ensuring the project stays on track. Communicate with clients regarding project updates, timelines, and any changes or concerns. Provide expert advice on materials, finishes, and carpentry techniques that meet the client's needs and expectations. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or a formal apprenticeship in carpentry is highly desirable. At least 5-10 years of professional experience in carpentry, with significant hands-on experience in various types of woodwork. Proven experience leading carpentry projects and managing a team. Experience working with both residential and commercial construction projects. Ability to perform complex carpentry tasks with high precision and quality. Proficient in reading architectural drawings, blueprints, and construction plans. Strong leadership and supervisory skills to guide a team of carpenters and apprentices. A keen eye for detail to ensure accurate measurements, cuts, and installations. Ability to think critically and troubleshoot issues that arise during construction. Proficient in the use of a wide range of carpentry tools and machinery. Strong knowledge of building codes and safety regulations. Familiarity with different wood types, finishes, and carpentry materials. Ability to lift heavy materials, stand, bend, and kneel for extended periods. Ability to work in various weather conditions and environments (e.g., construction sites, workshops).
