Job Overview

The Vessel Operations Manager is a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient execution of vessel operations.

  • Lead daily vessel operations, overseeing cargo loading and discharging activities.
  • Provide guidance to Masters on cargo, ports, routes, and operational matters.
  • Nominate agents and protective agents as required, reviewing and approving proforma and final PDAs.
  • Liaise with agents to coordinate vessel arrival and departure procedures.
  • Assist Masters with preparation for on-hire and off-hire arrangements.
  • Monitor fuel oil and freshwater consumption, arranging timely replenishment.
  • Share details on berthing schedules, cargo operations, departure status, bunker quantities, and cargo hold conditions with Chartering Managers.
  • Track charterers' redelivery notices and issue delivery notices to subsequent charterers.
  • Arrange joint on-hire/off-hire surveys in coordination with current and next charterers.
  • Liaise with insurers and P&I Clubs for coverage and claim handling.
  • Manage charter party disputes, including performance-related claims and contractual issues.
  • Coordinate with charterers and management companies on vessel transits through high-risk areas.
  • Prepare freight and hire invoices, monitor payments, follow up collections, and reconcile outstanding balances.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • Degree or higher qualification in a relevant field.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience with Dry Bulk Carriers.
  • Background in a shipowning company is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical, planning, project coordination, and time management abilities.
  • Proven commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and cost control.
  • Sound decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Well-organized with strong communication abilities across all levels.
