About the Role: Grade Level (for internal use): 09 The Role: The Associate Editor, Steel & Scrap, will be responsible for the day-to-day reporting on the Asian steel markets, including flat and long steel products and ferrous scrap, with a global team. Learn how steel plays an important role as the backbone of industries and be at the forefront of reporting on critical market trends and price developments. The person will be responsible for gathering pricing information and market intelligence, and conducting price assessments based on established methodology. The person will also write market commentaries, news and in-depth analysis stories. Based in Singapore, the successful candidate will also engage and nurture relationships with key market participants in Asia. Your Skills: Proven analytical ability and confidence handling numbers, exceptional energy, tenacity and ambition to excel in a fast-paced newsroom, strong written and verbal communication skills, analysis, and presentation skills. Candidates with a background in commodity market analysis, knowledge of trading strategies and derivatives markets will have an advantage. The individual will be responsible for: Gathering commodity price information, producing price assessments and writing commentaries. Assessing the value of benchmark prices fully in line with Platts methodology. Reporting market moving news in a timely manner, helping subscribers make decisions. Regularly engaging market participants, helping showcase Platts expertise, and helping to explain our methodology. Analyzing and explaining fundamentals and market developments affecting prices. Developing, expanding and maintaining contacts relevant to the market area of coverage. Facilitating close working relationships with key stakeholders. Effectively managing and developing price reporting coverage in the region. Qualifications: Minimum of a bachelor's degree. Desire to take ownership of a market in informational and relationship terms. Strong command of written and spoken English. Proficiency in another Asian language is an advantage. Ability and willingness to engage with market participants on a daily basis. Ability to write reports from information gathered on a daily basis. Ability to work in a team setting. Critical thinking abilities, strong sense of initiative and attention to detail. Conscientious user of Excel. Experience in market reporting and analysis, and in metals or other commodity markets would be advantageous, but not necessary.
