We are seeking a skilled Application Database Administrator to join our team. The successful candidate will manage, maintain, and optimize our database systems to support various application infrastructures. This role requires strong technical skills, analytical capabilities, and a firm understanding of database management principles, especially in a cloud-oriented or hybrid environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with application developers and system architects to design and develop database structures aligned with the requirements of the organisation's applications.
• Write and optimise database queries to ensure efficient data retrieval and manipulation, enhancing application performance.
• Monitor and fine-tune database performance to improve responsiveness and efficiency.
• Create and maintain data models that accurately represent the organisation's data and relationships, ensuring databases are well-structured and scalable.
• Implement automation processes for database deployment, configuration, and maintenance to streamline operations.
• Implement and maintain security measures within the databases, including access controls, encryption, and security best practices.
• Work closely with application developers to understand database requirements, provide guidance on best practices, and support optimisation of database interactions in applications.
• Resolve database-related issues, provide support to application developers, and participate in incident response and problem resolution.

Qualifications and Skills

• Proficiency in database management systems such as Sybase, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or NoSQL databases.
• Strong understanding of database design principles, data modelling, and database development, including SQL and database programming languages.
• Experience in performance tuning, query optimisation, and database indexing.
• Knowledge of database security best practices, including access control, encryption, and compliance with data protection regulations.
• Familiarity with database backup and recovery, disaster recovery planning and implementation.
• Ability to troubleshoot database-related issues and provide support to application teams.
• Understanding of data integrity, validation, normalisation, and data quality management.
• Proficiency in database automation, scripting, and scheduling tasks for maintenance and management.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with developers, system administrators, and other stakeholders.
• Experience in a database engineering or administration role focused on application databases and integration with software applications.
• Ability to stay updated with trends, tools, and best practices in database management and development.
