What the role is: Most Positive Workplace Collaboration Award – Singapore International Chamber of Commerce (SICC) Awards 2025Ranked #19 for The Straits Times Singapore's Best Employers 2024 & 2025As part of the Singapore Maritime Academy's technical support team, the Technical Executive will manage Marina and/or workshop operations to assist lecturers in conducting practical and tutorial classes. This role specifically involves safely launching and operating training crafts, ensuring equipment and facility maintenance, managing necessary purchases for training, and actively contributing as part of the teaching team for Diploma, CET, and Certificate of Competency courses. What you will be working on: Oversee daily operations and maintenance of the Poly Marina and/or other workshops/laboratories, ensuring equipment readiness, asset accountability, and compliance with Workplace Safety & Health Act. This includes procurement, record keeping, and coordinating services with suppliers. Provide comprehensive support for practical training, assisting lecturers in conducting lessons, monitoring students, and facilitating an authentic learning environment. Safely operate and demonstrate training vessels, including the launching and recovery of lifeboats, fast rescue boats, other training boats, and the activation of safety equipment like life rafts, flares, and smoke signals. Ensure all boats are in seaworthy and operational conditions. Collaborate on equipment and facility development to ensure training resources are current, operational, and align with industry needs. Provide direct assistance in teaching practical skills such as rope splicing, knots, bends, and hitches. Support Academy-wide events and administrative functions, including Open House, Graduation, ECG/outreach, and other school initiatives. Ensure compliance and quality management for the Marina and main campus activities, maintaining quality procedures and records. Manage the timely renewal of marine insurance and boat licenses/registries. What we are looking for: Holds Deck Class 5 Certificate of Competency issued by Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) or relevant authorities. Minimum two years of relevant work experience in the marine/engineering sector. Possess good understanding in safe launching of life boats, fast rescue boats and other life crafts. Possess good oral and written communication skills. Self-driven, independent, and possess readiness to work as a team. Passionate about education and mentoring students. Successful candidate will be offered a 2-year contract in the first instance.
