Internal Audit Specialist Job Description:

Role Overview

The Internal Audit Specialist is responsible for conducting audits and reviews to ensure the organization's internal control systems are effective in minimizing risk and improving governance.

This role involves collaborating with stakeholders, including management and regulators, to identify areas for improvement and implement recommendations.

  • Represent the organization during audits and act as a liaison between the auditee and the auditor-in-charge.
  • Conduct and report on assigned audits and special reviews to improve internal controls, governance, and risk management measures.
  • Pre-discuss findings and recommendations with the auditor-in-charge and the auditee to ensure understanding and agreement.
  • Evaluate and document audit procedures and findings to support conclusions.
  • Inform the auditor-in-charge about significant findings, including those that require head office involvement.

Professional Responsibilities

As an Internal Audit Specialist, you will be expected to:

  • Comply with professional standards, directives, and organizational policies.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments and best practices by attending conferences and workshops.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and inform team leaders accordingly.
  • Ensure adequate training and education for yourself and team members.
  • Contribute to process improvements and governance enhancements.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you must have:

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Professional certifications such as CPA, CA, CIA, or CFSA.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements and guidelines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • At least 5 years of experience in internal auditing, preferably in financial institutions.
