Proprietary Trader – Japanese Yen Interest Rates (Japan, Singapore or Hong Kong)

AP Capital is a diversified global investment firm trading across equities, commodities, FX, and fixed income (bonds, credit & rates). We employ market-neutral strategies to reduce market volatility exposure and deliver consistent, risk-adjusted returns. Our aim is to enhance liquidity and long-term capital efficiency.

We are currently expanding our Macro Rates team and are looking for a Proprietary Trader focused on Japanese Yen interest rate markets. This role will be instrumental in driving our Japanese Rates strategy within our macro platform, a division launched in May

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement proprietary trading strategies across JPY-denominated products, including JGBs, Yen interest rate swaps, futures, and options
  • Conduct in-depth macroeconomic analysis to identify trading opportunities, particularly within the Japan rates and FX landscape
  • Execute trades with precision and manage a trading book in compliance with risk and regulatory guidelines, ensuring a strong and consistent P&L performance
  • Monitor and manage portfolio risk, adjusting positions and strategies in response to market movements and risk protocols
  • Collaborate with internal teams—research, risk, and other traders to share insights and continuously refine trading approaches
  • Stay abreast of BOJ policy, global macro trends, and regulatory changes impacting the Japanese rates and FX markets

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of direct active trading experience in JPY rates markets. Demonstrated success as a proprietary trader with a focus on Japanese government bonds, interest rate swaps, and cross-currency swaps with proven track record
  • Strong quantitative background; Bachelor's or higher degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., CFA, FRM) are a plus
  • Excellent risk management skills with a consistent record of generating positive risk-adjusted returns
  • Proficient in trading platforms and financial software
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with the ability to interpret complex macro and market data
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Native-level fluency in Japanese and business-level proficiency in English are required.
