Vessel ManagerCMA Ships, a subsidiary of the CMA CGM Group, covers all facets of the maritime business: from the fleet management of the vessels to that of the crew members.
CMA Ships is also a team of experts responsible for implementing innovative solutions and making CMA CGM vessels more energy efficient.
Summary
CMA CGM is one of the world’s largest container shipping companies based in Marseille, France, equipped with a young and diverse fleet of more than 550 vessels. In view of our exciting expansion plans, we are seeking a Vessel Manager to join our office in Singapore for this onshore role.
Reporting to the Fleet Manager, you will be managing your assigned fleet of vessels, ensuring the ships are at optimal operational readiness with a strong focus on safety, fuel efficiency, and lower carbon footprint.
Main Responsibilities:
Lead and ensure Safety at all levelsPromote and develop a safety mindset onboard and in the office
Be an active player in events investigations and continuous improvement
Participate in the Management of Change culture
Aim for Operational Excellence
Ensure ships comply at all times with International, flag state, classification society, and port state rules and regulationsOversee crew management mattersBe the Manager of your onboard team
Brief crew on organisational policies, documentation, and procedures
Conduct appraisals and performance reviews of senior officers
Ensure team members are trained, coached, and mentored in alignment with industry standards and organisational needs
Responsible for the overall welfare of crew onboardManage maintenance of ships to ensure seaworthinessCoordinate with service engineers, manufacturers, and contractors for ship repairs and maintenance issues
Consult with manufacturers for specialist advice and guidance in complex ship repairs and maintenance issues
Ensure ships' conditions and maintenance standards adhere to organisational procedures
Prepare specifications and evaluate tenders
Monitor ship defects list and ensure follow-up is carried out to address defects
Conduct Risk Analysis, including nature and causes of serious breakdowns and damagesManage ship budget and expenditureMonitor operating costs and submit quarterly budget follow-up reports
Submit reports on budget, monthly key performance indicators, and targets
Resource planning management to support vessel operationsMinimum Skills and Qualifications:
At least 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in managing vessels independently with reputable ship owners or ship managers and/or experience in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Shipyard project management experience is a plus
Safety-oriented mindset
Has track records of Operational Excellence
Knowledge and experience with container ships is advantageous but not a must
Effective communication skills including verbal, written, and presentation skills
Ability to work effectively independently and in a team-based environment
An excellent team player
Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
Good stakeholder management and decision-making skills are a must
