The Role: The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Head of Transaction Legal – Asia Pacific for the purpose of executing the tasks and responsibilities associated with the legal team with a primary focus on managing complex transactions from letter of intent to final binding contract. Senior Transaction Counsel candidates must have a legal and commercial background with experience in aircraft leasing and aircraft financing. Key Responsibilities: Lead transactions through documentation phase to contract signature and closing, with minimal support. These transactions will tend to be complex in nature and/or material in scale, requiring extensive aircraft leasing experience and strong project management skills. Accountability and ownership of multiple simultaneous commercial negotiations, often in different locations and time zones. Ensuring that all documentation is completed to meet deadlines and in accordance with Avolon standards and guidelines. Managing restructuring, dispute resolution and litigation matters. Being the front person for Avolon in contract negotiations with airlines, banks, aircraft buyers and sellers, manufacturers, and maintenance providers. Independently managing and coordinating input from technical, credit, finance and commercial departments into transaction negotiation and documentation, giving informed views to help shape deal team decisions. Appointing and managing external legal counsel in all relevant jurisdictions. Providing input and expertise in initial transaction structuring process. The Person: You will be driven, focused, and resourceful as well as being an excellent relationship builder. You will always act with integrity and model your own behaviour to the highest standard. You will represent Avolon in a transparent and honest manner setting a strong example for others to follow. You will be able to articulate complex concepts and put forward compelling arguments and rationales to all levels and audiences within Avolon and the industry. Essential Skills and Experience: Qualified solicitor or barrister. Extensive experience in autonomously managing and negotiating aircraft financing and/or leasing transactions (preferably in the APAC region). A natural relationship builder, with the ability to quickly engender trust among stakeholders across multiple relationships. Previous experience of independently managing and developing multiple relationships, with excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills. Commercial awareness – holds customer expectation at core, ensuring best outcomes are achieved for both the customer and for Avolon. Highly motivated who brings original thought, challenge and innovation to solving problems. Anticipates challenges and shows an ability to think clearly and quickly through complex and dynamic situations, using the full deal team to maximum effect to surmount issues that impede on-time project delivery. Ability to distil complex issues into key messages to support decision making and to put forward compelling arguments and rationales to all levels and audiences within Avolon and with our customer. Strong and independent minded with the ability to express your views with conviction and authority and not afraid to provoke established thought, or to accept challenge to your own views.
