NLCS (Singapore)is looking for an enthusiastic, highly qualified and committed School Nurse , with an outstanding track record. The successful candidate will manage the Health Centre, oversee the medical care provided and promote good health and welfare amongst all students. Working collaboratively with other teams across the school to ensure the highest levels of wellbeing in the NLCS (Singapore) community. Advising the Senior Team on health risks and the management of health-related incidents. Key Responsibilities: To provide and manage emergency medical care across the school for students, staff and visitors. To work as an informed, proactive, effective and cohesive member of the community with the health and safety of all the students and staff being paramount. To review the health status of all children on entry to the school in accordance with requirements. Maintain accurate records for each student. To identify and coordinate health care for students with additional health needs to ensure that they receive the support required to enable them to attend and benefit from school. To communicate with students, parents, and teachers on medical matters and assess and advise relative parties with the information received. To communicate with parents, specialist health care professionals and others to develop individual health care plans for students with complex health needs and long-term conditions. E.g. Diabetes, significant allergies, asthma, etc To be the first point of contact for children, parents or carers needing health advice or information and offer open access to personalised support and advice in areas such as managing stress, risk-taking behaviours and refer on to other services as necessary. Identify knowledge gaps and plan Professional Development with the Vice Principal (Pastoral) to actively address these needs, ensuring appropriate updates for First Aid, Basic Life Support and Automated external defibrillator and Epipen Skills. To keep continuously updated on medical best practice recording and evaluating training completed. To liaise with International School Nurses across Singapore, supporting, facilitating and sharing of professional development. To provide annual training and advice for teachers and other staff on specific health needs e.g. diabetes management, allergies, epilepsy, asthma and other medical conditions as required. To review and document the first-aid qualifications of teachers and other staff members, planning and coordinating first aid courses for staff as required. To advise parents on immunisation programmes and advises on outbreaks of communicable diseases. Contribute to the planning and delivery of health education programmes including timetabled Personal and Social Education (PSE) classes and first-aid courses. Management of the Health Centre and Overseeing the Medical Provision. To adhere to the Singapore Nursing Board Code of Professional Conduct. Demonstrate professional conduct, preserve clients rights including confidentiality and promote mutual respect amongst colleagues. Assess and treat all accidents, injuries and illness within the scope of her professional practice that occur during school hours and refer students to the appropriate medical facility for emergency treatment/further treatment that may be necessary. Record visits to the Health Centre in the student’s records as well as first aid administration and any treatment provided communicated to the parents in writing or by telephone if necessary. To act as an advocate, providing supportive care for students who require mental health support; liaising with families, internal multidisciplinary team alongside external agencies with the child or young person as a primary focus. Communicate the accident/emergency procedure to all staff and review annually. Ensure that all information remains confidential and that disclosure without consent is made only during exceptional circumstances i.e. child protection issues and in accordance with school policy. Ensure that there is a clear policy on the storage, administration and recording of medication/s that is given while a student is in school. Obtain documented parental agreement prior to administering medication to a student and/or for a student to carry and administer his/her own medicine. Ensure that emergency medication is readily available to students who always require it at all times during the school day or at off-site activities. Non-emergency medication is kept in a secure place (the Health Centre) in a locked cupboard. Ensure that medical equipment is kept in good order and any requirements advised to administration, as necessary. Ensure that appropriate levels of medication/supplies are available and reorder, as necessary. When appropriate the school nurse will advise on and develop new initiatives in response to evidence based good practice which may be beneficial to students and/or staff. To research, develop, implement and support best practice health promotion programmes for students and staff across the school, i.e. Mammobus, Blood drive, Head Lice, Hand foot and Mouth. To ensure all health related school policies are current and compliant with clinical and school requirements adhering to national policies where required. Create and implement the Health Centre’s annual Development Plan in line with the school’s strategic plan and review throughout the academic year. To meet the Ministry of Health regulations on the licensing of the School Medical Clinic and ensure the Health Centre meets safety guidelines. To manage a delegated Nursing budget within a whole school budget. Wider School Roles: Research, develop and lead innovative approaches to mental and physical wellbeing across the school, encompassing staff and students. Collaborate with Heads of Pastoral / Heads of PSE on curriculum and pastoral needs pertaining to health care and healthy living by researching, developing and delivering specialist input. To contribute to the School Individual Needs team, liaising with Emotional and Guidance Counselling Team, learning support and Heads of Pastoral, to provide support to students with a health and wellbeing perspective. Attend and participate in meetings across the school providing advice as required. To act as a support and advocate for staff and student’s journeys through chronic and serious illness, researching and signposting to relevant external agencies as required. To liaise directly with Outdoor Education regarding sufficient nursing cover for residential and identified Singapore field study trips, based on school policy alongside individual trip risk assessments. May be required to attend overseas trips. Liaise with Outdoor Education and trip service providers to develop risk assessments for specific students with medical requirements ensuring inclusivity and safety is adhered to. To liaise with Sports and Activities in providing appropriate nursing support for sporting events and advising of other supporting agencies (i.e. ambulance, physiotherapist). To support and advise on First Aid training curriculum within school for staff and students. To research and develop health related talks as part of parent sessions to staff and parents when required. Crisis Management and Communication Liaising with the Management team on any school wide health related matters, either student or staff issues. i.e., Eating Disorders, Hand Foot and Mouth Disease, Haze, wellbeing. To be proactive in communicating to the School community, relevant, up to date health information, liaising with the NLCS (Singapore) Marketing & Communications department where appropriate. (i.e. Covid-19 Pandemic). Advising Management on prevalent community, country or regional wide health issues and preparing prevention / educational strategies for the school community. Develop and evaluate school-wide accident reporting systems. Monitor accidents across the school and feedback statistics as required to the Senior Team. To be a member of the Crisis Management Team, to be called upon to report to the Senior Team on emergency and health related issues affecting staff and the wider school community. To liaise with the Senior Team and Ministry of Health to respond to a pandemic threat to the School community, initiating and managing Temperature Testing procedures and following the School Pandemic Plan. To liaise with the Senior Team and review the School pandemic plan regularly, maintaining pandemic stock (i.e, N95 masks, hand sanitiser, communication documents). To liaise with relevant Singapore authorities (i.e Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education), informing them of notifiable infectious disease clusters within North London Collegiate (Singapore) and adhering to any advice given. Report all Ministry of Health advice to the Senior Team. To liaise with HR and Operations departments in maintaining a clean safe environment within each school and informing them of infectious disease outbreaks so hygiene precautions can be elevated. Safeguarding: Abide by the school safeguarding policy and keep abreast of any changes. Be responsible for reporting any concerns about a child to the VP (Pastoral). Qualifications/Skills Possess a Bachelor's Degree/Post Graduate Qualifications/Professional Degree in Nursing or equivalent. Registered with the Singapore Nursing Board. Have recent experience of working in a medical or allied health related environment, e.g. paramedic, medical technician, nurse. Preferably with previous experience in an International School setting. Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills. Confident in the use of IT and knowledgeable as to how it can be used in the administrative environment.
