About the Team

The Cloud Performance Engineering team is responsible for building a cloud-native ClickHouse Cloud Platform that will transform the OLAP space. The team seeks exceptional performance engineers with a proven track record of understanding performance limits of distributed databases and creating tools for measuring performance and scalability of complex systems. The ideal candidate is a distributed systems performance engineer with experience in database benchmarking, test automation, system engineering, performance analysis, and capacity management. This role offers a unique opportunity to impact elastic, high-performance, serverless ClickHouse Cloud.

What will you do?

• Benchmark system performance, perform database performance analysis, capacity sizing, and optimization.
• Troubleshoot and debug application and server errors and logs, and triage accordingly.
• Recommend configuration tuning and optimizations for performance bottlenecks.
• Collaborate with the ClickHouse core development team, cloud team, and security team to improve ClickHouse Cloud performance.
• Plan, enable, and drive Chaos initiatives across Engineering teams based on internal priorities.
• Develop, deploy, and manage tools to systematically run chaos experiments and measure impact.
• Enjoy working on and gaining a deep understanding of large-scale distributed systems.
• Study problems in software resilience, operational, and delivery spaces.
• Extend the backend to enable Chaos Engineering techniques in the system.
• Observe running systems and identify innovative ways to disrupt them.

About you

• You have 6+ years of software development experience building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed systems.
• Experience in Go, C/C++, Java, or similar languages.
• Experience with concurrency, multithreading, and deploying distributed system architectures.
• Experience developing cloud infrastructure services, preferably with Kubernetes.
• Experience leading and delivering large-scale technical projects with multiple engineers.
• Expertise with a public cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their IaaS offerings (e.g., EC2).
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work well within a team and across engineering teams.
• Strong problem-solving and production debugging skills.
• Passionate about efficiency, availability, scalability, and data governance.
• Thrives in a fast-paced environment and partners with the business to move the business forward.
• Demonstrates high responsibility, ownership, and accountability.
