Special Programs Manager

As a Special Programs Manager at Louisiana Virtual Charter Academy (LAVCA), you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing policies and procedures related to special education. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with school leadership to establish best practices for special education, providing training to teachers on special education programs and services, and ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.You will also be responsible for maintaining contacts with district(s), intermediate units, and state special education leaders, developing contracts with service providers for related services, overseeing the development and implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEP), and ensuring fiscal compliance for special programs.In addition, you will work closely with the Test Coordinator to ensure appropriate accommodations for students during state testing, collaborate with the K12 enrollment team to identify and enroll students with special needs, and communicate changes in special education practices and laws to the Head of School.As part of your role, you will supervise a team of 5-10 Full-time Equivalent (FTE) employees and/or contractors, including Related Service Coordinator, School Psychologist, and Speech Therapist. Your supervisory responsibilities will involve interviewing, hiring, training, and evaluating employees, as well as addressing any issues that may arise.To be successful in this position, you must hold a Bachelor's degree, have at least three years of special education teaching experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additionally, you should possess a Special Education Teacher Certification along with certification in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, or Middle or Secondary Education in Math, Science, or Language Arts.Strong project management skills, interpersonal communication abilities, and a customer service orientation are essential for this role. You should be able to read data effectively, apply adult instructional methods, and demonstrate good judgment in decision-making. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, as well as the ability to travel up to 25% of the time, are also required.Desired qualifications for this position include a Master's degree, supervisory certificate, ESL certification, Reading or Math specialist endorsement, and three years of special education administration experience.This is a home-based position with the opportunity to make a significant impact on the educational experience of students at Louisiana Virtual Charter Academy.
