Join to apply for the Mandarin Teacher role at TES FE News Job Overview The Perse School (Singapore) is seeking dynamic and passionate Mandarin Teachers to join our expanding Primary and Senior School during the 2025 - 2026 (August 2025, January and April 2026) academic year. We also welcome expressions of interest from candidates looking ahead to August 2026 and beyond. The successful candidates will play a crucial role in delivering an engaging and rigorous Mandarin curriculum that fosters linguistic proficiency and cultural appreciation. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching Mandarin to students of various proficiency levels, from beginners to advanced learners, and preparing students for IGCSE, A Level, or IB Diploma examinations. The role may also include leadership opportunities within the Modern Foreign Languages Faculty as the school continues to grow. In addition to teaching, the post-holder will contribute to the wider school community through extracurricular activities, such as Chinese language clubs, cultural events, and study abroad opportunities. They will also serve as a Form Tutor, providing pastoral care and supporting students’ personal and academic development. Key Responsibilities Develop and deliver a high-quality Mandarin Chinese curriculum aligned with the Cambridge International languages curriculum, IGCSE and IB or A Level curriculum. Teach Mandarin Chinese across a range of year groups, fostering students' linguistic skills and cultural awareness. Develop and implement lesson plans, learning materials and assessments that cater to varying levels of language proficiency. Regularly provide formative and summative assessments to monitor students' progress. Implement differentiated teaching strategies to cater to students with varying levels of language proficiency, including native and non-native speakers. Prepare students for external examinations, including IGCSE and A Level/IB Diploma Mandarin. Promote an appreciation of Chinese culture, literature, and history through engaging lessons and co-curricular activities. Support students as a Form Tutor, contributing to their pastoral care and personal development. Collaborate with colleagues in the Modern Foreign Languages Faculty to ensure curriculum continuity and cross-disciplinary learning opportunities. Establish strong partnerships with parents, keeping them informed of their child’s progress and addressing any concerns. Engage in professional development opportunities and share best practices in Mandarin language education. Contribute to extracurricular activities such as Chinese language clubs, cultural festivals, calligraphy workshops, and study trips to Chinese-speaking regions. Person Specification Essential Skills and Attributes: Strong subject knowledge in Mandarin Chinese language and culture. Experience teaching Mandarin (Foreign Language / Second Language / First Language) to students aged 11–18, including preparation for IGCSE and A Level/IB examinations. A passion for language acquisition and the ability to inspire students to develop their Mandarin proficiency. Proficiency in differentiated instruction to support both native and non-native speakers. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, fostering strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. Ability to create an inclusive learning environment that supports diverse student needs, including EAL learners. Commitment to cultural education and promoting cross-cultural understanding within the school community. Strong organizational skills and the ability to balance multiple responsibilities effectively. Desirable Skills And Experience Experience teaching in an international school setting. Familiarity with concept-based, inquiry-based, or project-based learning approaches. Experience developing curriculum frameworks or leading a team within a Language Department. Enthusiasm for engaging students in extracurricular activities, such as cultural immersion trips, international language competitions, or Chinese debate clubs. Knowledge of modern language learning technologies, such as online platforms, apps, and digital resources.
