The position supports NUS's commitment to the holistic health and wellbeing of its student community. Job Description The Locum Counsellor provides professional counselling and psychological support to students, including assessments, crisis management, and case coordination. The role is part of a multidisciplinary team focused on enhancing student wellbeing and will support service needs during designated shifts or periods of high demand. Key Responsibilities Provide professional counselling services in person and online for NUS students. Conduct risk and needs assessments and deliver evidence‐based intervention plans. Prepare assessment reports, present cases, and make referrals to relevant services. Co‐manage at‐risk and crisis cases with senior mental health practitioners. Document and maintain accurate, timely clinical records in accordance with UCS policies. Respond to and manage crisis situations, ensuring appropriate safety planning, escalation, and follow‐up. Advocate for student mental health needs and coordinate care across services and stakeholders. Collaborate with schools, faculties, student affairs offices, hostels, and other internal/external units to support students with complex mental health issues. Skills and Competencies Proficiency in recognised counselling approaches and tools for diverse issues and conditions. Strong risk‐assessment capabilities with the ability to provide appropriate support and interventions. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in clinical and operational work. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with internal stakeholders and external partners. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively within a team. Strong command of written and spoken English. Cultural competence and ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds. Ability to provide strategic support aligned with UCS and University goals. Qualifications Master's degree in counselling, counselling psychology, or clinical psychology. At least eight (8) years of professional counselling and/or psychological practice. Prior experience in crisis intervention and crisis assessments. Preferably a clinical member and registered counsellor with the Singapore Association for Counselling (SAC) and/or Singapore Psychological Services (SPS) or an equivalent professional body. Awareness, understanding, and experience with the school system, especially in tertiary education – an advantage. Preferred/Additional Experience Experience in specialised modalities such as group work, trauma‐informed practice, and couple therapy. Working Arrangements Willingness to work at alternative times (12:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.) and support after‐office hours duties as required.
