Duties and Responsibilities:
Within three months of the anticipated docking period, create an accurate dry-dock repair specification and go over the work scope in detail with the attending superintendent, site crew, and vessel manager.
Communicate with shipyard staff to arrange dock space and get updates on the status of any ongoing repairs.
Evaluate several yard quotes, bargain, and create a budget that includes the timing and scope of the dry docking process for management's approval.
Keep overall dry-docking costs under control and within the allocated budget.
Compile weekly financial progress reports to inform the attending superintendent about the status of the projects while the shipyard is being repaired.
Maintain spending within the allotted budget through ongoing oversight, weekly cost reporting, and identification of rising and falling expenses.
Assist the DD-Site Team as needed, particularly by examining shipyard bills and settling them to save costs.
Examine and negotiate the shipyard's draft invoice to save the corporation money on dry docking.
Bargain with significant vendors and service providers to reduce the cost of the owner's arrangement (paint, spare parts, and services) while repairs are being completed.
Within 14 days of the ship's departure or the shipyard bill settlement, prepare the DD variance report.
Keep the five-year docking schedule current and produce the annual DD-Budget for the upcoming year.
Add information to the dry-docking database, such as the history of tank, hold, and hull painting, to assist management in decision-making.
Examine the expense of contractor work and agree on a fixed price with contractors for routine maintenance, repairs, and replacement parts.
Issue purchase orders (POs) to DD spares and services suppliers and vendors, ensuring that the yard and supplier/vendor bills are checked and paid on schedule.
Examine and improve vendor and supplier contracts, as well as frame agreements with shipyards, in collaboration with the procurement department.
Assist with the audit and oversee suppliers, contractors, shipyards, and vendors regarding the quality of the goods and services rendered.
Participate in unique projects and initiatives under the direction of the Dry Docking and Repairs Head of Department.
Qualifications:
A diploma in shipbuilding, naval architecture, or marine engineering.
Knowledge of overseeing the dry docking of ships or experience working in a commercial dry docking capacity in a shipping firm or as an estimator in a shipyard.
Previous shipyard or shipping business superintendent experience.
