Senior Research Engineer (Smart Robotics and Automation Division/Adaptive Robotics and Mechatronics Group), SIMTech We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Senior Research Engineer with a strong background in automation systems and hands-on deployment experiences in manufacturing environments. This role is pivotal in bridging industry needs with advanced mechanical design solutions, from conceptualization to implementation. Job Description Industry Engagement & Problem Definition: Collaborate with industry partners to gather and define problem statements and translate operational challenges into actionable design requirements. System Design Leadership: Lead the full lifecycle of mechanical system design from concept development to detailed design and deployment; drive innovation in mechanical architecture and automation principles. Project Execution: Oversee the implementation of mechanical systems on manufacturing floors and ensure designs meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability standards. Technical Expertise: Apply knowledge of GD&T and design for automation principles; utilize SolidWorks or Solid Edge for 3D modelling, simulation, and documentation. Independent Contribution: Operate autonomously in industry engagement, design ideation, and technical execution; mentor junior designers and collaborate cross-functionally with electrical and software teams. Job Requirements Strong and in-depth technical knowledge in mechanical robotics and automation. 3+ years of relevant work experience. Skills and Qualifications Strong knowledge of GD&T principles. Mechanism design and analysis experience, including serial and parallel kinematic mechanisms. Working knowledge of precision machine design principles and their engineering application. Familiarity with SolidWorks/Solid Edge and other CAD software; exposure to Finite Element Analysis. Knowledge of automation components/modules/systems and ability to source solutions. Experience working in cross-disciplinary teams (electrical, controls, software). Familiarity with lean manufacturing and industrial standards. Prior exposure to industry-academic collaboration or R&D environments.
