What the role is: Principal Geospatial Engineer What you will be working on: Singapore Land Authority is the geospatial agency in Singapore, managing and operating a public map platform to provide localised and accurate map data and location-based services (LBS) for government agencies, private sectors, and public. We are seeking an experienced Principal Geospatial Data Engineer to advance our public map platform. The successful candidate will manage and optimise diverse geospatial datasets, architect efficient database structures, and develop robust geospatial services. This role offers an opportunity to apply geospatial data engineering technologies to enhance data ingestion, indexing, and retrieval efficiency, and developing robust geospatial services for public benefit, contributing to innovation in location intelligence and mapping solutions. The ideal candidate will have experience in geospatial data engineering, a proven track record in managing geospatial datasets, expertise in database architecture, and strong skills in developing geospatial services. Design and implement a robust database architecture to handle complex geospatial datasets, ensuring scalability and efficiency. Develop workflows for automated ingestion, validation, and updating of hyperlocal geospatial data and maps. Create advanced data indexing strategies to optimise geospatial queries and retrieval processes. Design and deploy backend services (e.g., RESTful APIs) that provide seamless access to geospatial data for middleware and frontend applications. Ensure backend services are optimized for high performance, reliability, and scalability. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver integrated solutions. What we are looking for: Background in Geospatial Science, GIS, Computer Science, or related field. 3+ years of experience in geospatial data engineering or backend development for geospatial applications. Proficiency in geospatial databases, GIS tools, and frameworks (e.g., PostGIS, QGIS, GDAL, ArcGIS). Experience in backend development (Python, Node.js) and version control systems. Expertise in geospatial data formats, tiling services, and OGC standards. Strong understanding of geospatial concepts and automated cartographic techniques. Skills in developing data pipelines, QA/QC processes, and optimising geospatial data workflows. Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
