We are seeking a visionary and technically accomplished AI Architect to join our Digital team and lead the strategy, design, and delivery of advanced AI-driven solutions.
This senior role offers a unique opportunity for a passionate technologist to apply artificial intelligence, particularly large language models (LLMs) and machine learning (ML), to solve complex challenges in the built environment. Your work will drive innovation in automation and optimisation across infrastructure systems and building design.
As a core team member, you will shape the integration of AI into engineering workflows, collaborating across disciplines to deliver scalable, reliable, and intuitive solutions. Responsibilities:
Design robust, scalable AI/ML architectures, including model pipelines, data ingestion, and deployment frameworks tailored to infrastructure projects.
Define and drive the AI roadmap for infrastructure planning and design, aligning with AECOM's digital delivery goals and client needs.
Guide the development and fine-tuning of AI models to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and engineering principles.
Develop scalable scripts and model training pipelines using Python.
Lead AI tool integration with existing engineering software (e.g., ArcGIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, Rhino, FME), ensuring seamless interoperability.
Mentor AI engineers and collaborate with civil engineers, utility specialists, and GIS/BIM experts to bridge domain knowledge with AI capabilities.
Establish best practices for model validation, versioning, explainability, and compliance with standards.
Evaluate and implement emerging AI technologies (e.g., LLMs, generative design, reinforcement learning) applicable to geospatial and infrastructure challenges.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, or related engineering fields. Advanced degrees preferred.
8+ years of AI/ML development experience, including at least 3 years in an architectural or leadership role.
Proven experience applying AI to real-world problems, especially in spatial/geometric analysis, geospatial data, or engineering.
Proficiency in Python and frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn.
Strong understanding of data architecture, MLOps pipelines, cloud platforms (Azure/GCP/AWS), and model governance.
Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
