Roles & Responsibilities

Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Database Engineer to join our technology team. The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving skills, a deep understanding of database systems, and experience working under high-pressure environments. You will play a key role in maintaining, optimizing, and evolving database systems to support critical business operations.

What You'll Do in the First 3–6 Months

  • Get Oriented & Connect:
    Learn our technology best practices, tools, and principles for delivering high-quality solutions.
    Meet your colleagues and build strong, collaborative working relationships across teams.
  • Dive into Our Systems:
    Familiarize yourself with key databases, codebases, and the functionality they provide.
    Understand how our solutions are deployed and maintained in production environments.
  • Make an Impact:
    Pick up existing issues in the code repository and contribute through merge requests.
    Engage in discussions, prototyping, implementation, testing, and support of next-generation database technologies.
  • Optimize & Monitor:
    Ensure databases are appropriately resourced for performance, resilience, and scalability.
    Implement monitoring and alerting to minimize downtime and provide actionable insights.
  • Maintain Operational Excellence:
    Perform routine database maintenance, including installations, upgrades, patches, and Disaster Recovery testing.
    Troubleshoot live service issues, conduct root cause analysis, and document post-mortems to continuously improve operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain database solutions across multiple platforms.
  • Optimize database performance through indexing, query analysis, and tuning.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with access control and auditing standards.
  • Participate in multi-region database deployments and replication strategies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support development and production environments.
  • Contribute to database architecture decisions, including data warehousing and partitioning strategies.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of industry experience; exceptional candidates with less experience may be considered.
  • Expert in ANSI SQL, DDL, DML, data normalization, and transactions.
  • Strong experience with PostgreSQL is highly desirable; Microsoft SQL Server and MongoDB experience is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of profilers, query analyzers, optimizers, and indexing strategies.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing architectures, including schema design and partitions.
  • Familiarity with database security, including access control and auditing.
  • Experience with multi-region SQL Server replication, mirroring, log shipping, and backups is a plus.
  • Experience with multi-region MongoDB clusters, shards, GridFS, and backups is advantageous.
  • Experience with columnar databases such as DuckDB and ClickHouse is a plus.
  • Exposure to both self-hosted and cloud-based database solutions.
