We are seeking an experienced English law-qualified Senior Associate with Japanese language proficiency to join our Dispute Resolution practice in Singapore. This is a pivotal role for a commercially astute lawyer with 6-8 years' post-qualification experience with prior experience managing a wide range of disputes. In this role, you will represent clients in various high-value, cross-border disputes and international arbitrations across a broad range of sectors.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a complex caseload of civil and commercial dispute resolution matters from instruction through to resolution. The caseload will cover a wide range of dispute resolution mechanisms including international arbitrations, mediations, adjudications and investigations, across a broad spectrum of sectors including sport, construction & infrastructure, oil & gas, pharma & bio-medical devices, and anti-bribery & corruption.
  • Provide strategic legal advice on disputes and contentious issues to internal stakeholders or clients.
  • Draft and review pleadings, submissions, witness statements, and other legal documents.
  • Ensure compliance with legal procedural deadlines in multiple jurisdictions while maintaining rigorous file management and reporting standards.
  • Actively engage in networking and business development initiatives to attract new clients and drive growth in the department, working closely with (among others) the firm's London and Tokyo offices to target Japanese companies.
Qualifications
  • 6-8 years' post-qualification experience (PQE) in high-value, cross-border dispute resolution, litigation, or arbitration across a broad range of sectors.
  • Candidates must be English law qualified, as you will primarily be working on English law governed matters.
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and client management skills.
  • You will be expected to work closely with the firm's Tokyo office and our Japanese clients in developing and maintaining the firm's business, fluency in Japanese is a pre-requisite.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and complex issues with discretion and professionalism.
