ROLE
The Project Planner plans, interprets, organizes, and manages master planning projects through all phases of design. The Project Planner establishes and monitors budgets, prepares schedules to ensure the efficient utilization of resources and manages the project team. Depending on project size and scope, the Project Planner may work closely with the designated Project Manager or may act as Project Manager themselves in the planning and design process from proposal through the various stages of the project to drive the delivery of project deadlines within established budgets and schedules. The Project Planner reports to the Studio Director or Managing Principal.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manages project activities, and provides guidance to team members regarding performance of scope, and development of project deliverables
• Manages internal teams, consultants, local planners and other specialists or subconsultants
• Assures the project conforms to WATG's quality control process and delivery standards (ISO)
• Assures project conforms to contractual agreement with client
• Manages projects to ensure completion within allocated schedules and budgets to ensure profitability
• Assures that project needs are met by effectively managing project staff to ensure efficient utilization of resources
• Implements processes to reduce risks and exposure in all areas of the project
• Develops and understands contractual liabilities as they relate to planner/owner projects, including fee calculations
• Conducts research and data analysis, including master plan level programming and space planning studies
• Interfaces with clients, sub-consultants, and other professionals during all stages of complex and multi-disciplinary project development to ensure a coordinated, cohesive, and informed engagement and appropriate guidance and response to project requirements
• Coordinates and supports project presentations, project coordination, and client communications
EXPECTATIONS OF THE ROLE
• Communicates design ideas verbally and graphically using well-developed interpersonal, analytical, graphical and communication skills
• Effectively manages multiple priorities across complex projects
• Team leader who manages an efficient project team with a focus on achieving commitments and extraordinary outcomes
• Speaks and presents in a group setting in a convincing, articulate, and professional manner that reflects expertise
• Travel required for site visits and workshops
REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's degree in urban planning, urban design, landscape architecture, or related field
• Registered professional in planning or landscape architecture preferred
• Environmental accreditation preferred
• 10+ years of experience in master planning or architecture projects
• Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp
• Land planning experience, including project management, graphic communication, land-use zoning, and client relationships
• Excellent graphic skills, including hand sketch ability, visualization renderings, plans, and document layout
• Working knowledge of sustainable design and planning
• Increasing project leadership and team management experience
• Ability to effectively meet deadlines while managing multiple priorities
• Highly effective written and verbal communication skills
