As the Technical Architect / Head, you will lead the design, implementation, and governance of secure, scalable, high-performance data & cloud platform solutions. You will be responsible for defining the architecture strategy, guiding engineering teams, ensuring best practices in Azure & Databricks, and ensuring alignment with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and global architecture standards. You will work closely with business stakeholders, global/region leads, infrastructure, security, and analytics teams.

Responsibilities

• Define and own the architectural roadmap for cloud (Azure) and data platforms (Databricks, Data Lakes, Warehouses), ensuring future-proof, scalable, and secure architectures.
• Lead design, prototyping, and implementation of data ingestion, processing, transformation, and analytics pipelines using Azure services (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks, etc.).
• Ensure performance, reliability, cost efficiency and optimization of cloud/data solutions. Monitor resource usage, latency, data throughput, SLAs.
• Set and enforce engineering best practices: CI/CD, version control, testing, infrastructure as code, data governance, security & compliance.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions; guide trade-offs (cost vs performance, speed vs maintainability).
• Oversee the implementation of data governance, metadata management, lineage, encryption, data quality, access control and compliance (e.g., for Singapore regulations, insurance industry requirements).
• Mentor, lead, and build a high-performing team of architects, data engineers, cloud engineers. Provide technical leadership, guidance, code/design reviews.
• Evaluate new tools/technologies in cloud, data engineering, machine learning, real-time streaming, etc., and drive adoption where beneficial.
• Ensure disaster recovery, business continuity, and high availability (HA) aspects are factored into architectural designs.
• Participate in budgeting, capacity planning, cost management of cloud resources and data infrastructure.

Required Skills & Experience

• Education : Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related field. Master’s degree or relevant certifications preferred.
• Experience : 15+ years in software/data/cloud architecture / technical leadership roles. At least several years leading Azure & Databricks deployments at scale.
• Databricks / Big Data : Strong experience with Databricks (clusters, notebooks, Spark), optimizing Spark jobs, data lakes, data lakehouse architecture. Experience with batch & real-time processing.
• Programming & Data Engineering : Proficiency in languages such as Python / PySpark / Scala; strong SQL skills; experience with ETL / ELT tools; knowledge of streaming (e.g. Event Hubs/Kafka) is a plus.
• Architecture & Design : Strong skills in system design, trade-off analysis, microservices vs monolith, API / event driven architectures, data modeling, storage, and compute cost optimization.
• Governance & Security : Experience with data governance frameworks, security (authentication, authorization, encryption), compliance (insurance industry/regional).
• Leadership & Communication : Proven ability leading distributed teams; excellent stakeholder management; ability to present and justify technical decisions to senior leadership.
• Soft Skills : Strategic thinker, problem solver, decision maker, adaptable, good at managing ambiguity, strong collaboration skills.
