Transportation Specialist

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Transportation Specialist to join our team.

Job Description:

A Transportation Specialist, also known as a truck or HGV driver, is responsible for safely transporting goods and materials using large commercial vehicles. Their key duties include operating the vehicle, planning routes, loading and unloading goods, and maintaining the vehicle. The specialist ensures safe and timely delivery of goods while adhering to traffic regulations and company policies.

Responsibilities:

  • Operating lorries safely, adhering to traffic laws and company policies.
  • Planning delivery routes, considering traffic, weather conditions, and time constraints.
  • Navigating efficiently to ensure timely deliveries.

Loading and Unloading:

  • Supervising or assisting with loading and unloading goods, ensuring proper securing of loads.
  • Ensuring the safety of goods during transportation.
  • Handling and moving items, potentially including lifting and carrying.

Vehicle Maintenance and Safety:

  • Performing routine vehicle checks and maintenance, such as oil, tire, and brake checks.
  • Inspecting the vehicle for mechanical and safety issues, reporting any defects.
  • Ensuring the vehicle is clean, safe, and legally roadworthy.

Paperwork and Communication:

  • Completing delivery paperwork, including logbooks, receipts, and trip reports.
  • Communicating with dispatchers, transport managers, and clients regarding delivery status and potential delays.
  • Maintaining accurate records of deliveries and driving hours.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Adhering to safety regulations and using personal protective equipment.
  • Staying informed about road closures, diversions, and traffic jams.
  • Reporting any accidents, delays, or incidents.
  • Providing customer service to clients during deliveries.
  • Maintaining a positive attitude while interacting with other drivers and road users.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Valid driver's license with class 4 or class 5 (and potentially specialized licenses like LGV C+E or CPC).
  • Clean driving and medical record.
  • Experience as a lorry driver or in a similar role.
  • Familiarity with GPS and navigation tools.
  • Knowledge of road safety rules and regulations.
  • Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy objects.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
