Speech and Language Therapist (Early Intervention)
This position involves working with pre-school aged children on the autism spectrum.
Responsibilities
Assessment: Use formal and informal assessments to identify and report on the needs of child and family in the areas of Social Communication, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), Speech & Language.
Make relevant recommendations for intervention based on assessment findings.
Intervention: Formulate social communication and related holistic goals for children in collaboration with teachers and other professionals.
Plan and implement relevant interventions and programmes in collaboration with teachers and other professionals.
Monitor outcomes through regular reporting on progress of intervention goals.
Training: Develop and deliver in-service training and consultation to teachers, as well as workshops for parents/caregivers in the following areas: Understanding social communication and interaction in children on the autism spectrum; Evidence-informed approaches, tools and strategies to support children on the autism spectrum.
Programme Development: Participate in curriculum/program development projects as directed.
Requirements
Fully registered/eligible for full registration with the Allied Health Professional Council (AHPC).
Desire to learn about autism and the passion to serve the autism community.
Flexibility and adaptability to changes and different perspectives.
Ability to work independently and as a team member in a fast-paced work environment.
Excellent spoken and written communication and interpersonal skills.
