Visiting Fellow (Climate Innovation)Join ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute (ISEAS) as a Visiting Fellow in Climate Innovation on a 3‐month contract. Overview The ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute is a leading research centre dedicated to the study of socio‐political, security and economic trends across Southeast Asia. Focus of Research Visiting Fellows will investigate climate innovation ecosystems in Indonesia/Vietnam, focusing on identifying effective solutions for energy transition, sustainable food and agriculture, or climate resilience. The research should: - Emphasise scalable approaches and assess regional impact and replication potential; - Incorporate insights from government, industry, and community stakeholders; - Address one or more of the following core themes using qualitative methods (case studies, stakeholder mapping, policy analysis): Climate governance innovation – new ways of organising, financing and coordinating climate action, including institutional design, market and regulatory reform, and climate finance mobilisation. Climate mitigation innovation – technologies, business models, finance tools and policies that accelerate emissions reduction (e.g., low‐carbon energy, smart grids, electrification, hydrogen, carbon pricing). Climate adaptation innovation – practical solutions that reduce climate vulnerability and enable communities and sectors to anticipate, cope with and recover from climate risks (e.g., climate‐resilient agriculture, early‐warning systems). In addition to evaluating project‐level initiatives, Fellows are encouraged to identify sector‐wide innovation themes that shape climate action in Indonesia/Vietnam and to capture broader trends and enablers for scalable innovation. Research Responsibilities Conduct rigorous research, including comparative case studies, stakeholder interviews and fieldwork where feasible. Prepare a country report (5,000–6,000 words) and publish at least two commentary pieces in the media. Present findings at internal and online meetings and a conference in Singapore (second half of 2026). Engage proactively with media outlets to amplify research insights and foster public understanding. Requirements PhD in a relevant discipline or Master's with significant research experience. Strong publication history and an interdisciplinary approach. Excellent English skills; knowledge of Bahasa Indonesia or Vietnamese is mandatory. Ability to work independently and engage remotely with diverse teams. *Note: This is a remote position and relocation is not required. Application Process Applications should include a cover letter, full CV, two referee contacts and a strong research proposal on climate innovation in Indonesia or Vietnam. The proposal should discuss the topic, plans for fieldwork and duration, projected timeline and anticipated outputs. It should be no more than five pages (double spaced) and contain a commentary‐style writing sample. Remuneration and Benefits Will depend on the candidate's qualifications and experience.
