Job Title: Purchasing Specialist
Role Overview:
The Purchasing Specialist plays a vital role in the procurement process, ensuring timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials, equipment, and services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Source and evaluate quotations for construction materials, equipment, and subcontractor services to align with project specifications and budget requirements.
- Negotiate contracts, terms, and conditions with suppliers to secure the best deals.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and implement measures to achieve reductions.
- Ensure procured materials and services meet required quality standards and specifications.
- Coordinate with stakeholders to address any quality issues promptly.
- Process purchase requisitions and raise purchase orders (POs) in accordance with internal approval processes.
- Monitor order status, coordinate timely deliveries, and support site logistics planning.
- Maintain and update an approved list of vendors and subcontractors based on performance and compliance checks.
- Assist in vendor performance reviews and ensure delivery standards meet safety and environmental requirements.
- Ensure proper documentation of all procurement transactions in line with regulatory standards.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders to support compliance checks.
Requirements:
- Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Building, Construction Management, or related discipline.
- 3-5 years' relevant experience in construction procurement or QS roles.
- Proficient in MS Excel, Word, and ERP systems.
- Able to read drawings/specifications/preambles.
- Strong negotiation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Highly organized, with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Experience with public sector projects is desirable.
