RESPONSIBILITIES The Salvation Army - Children and Youth Group About the Role We are looking for a compassionate Counsellor to provide therapeutic support to children, youth, and families in our residential care and community programs. A large majority of our children and youth have a history of abuse, neglect, trauma or have a parent incarcerated. This role emphasises emotional support, skill-building, and crisis intervention in a collaborative team environment. Key Responsibilities Provide counselling and psychoeducation to clients (child, youth or family) dealing with trauma, family conflict, and behavioural challenges. Facilitate therapeutic groups (e.g., coping skills, social-emotional learning). Work closely with social workers and psychologists to implement care plans. Document sessions and contribute to case reviews. Support crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed. QUALIFICATIONS Masters in Counselling Psychology, Clinical Mental Health Counselling, or related field (must be eligible for accreditation with SAC or equivalent). Experience: 3 years and above years in counselling, preferably with cases which are involved in child protection, trauma or out of home care and have worked with children, youth or families. Skills Training in modalities like Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (or other trauma modalities), Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, Play Therapy. Ability to engage clients with complex needs. No supervisory responsibilities—focus on direct client work.
