The role contributes to cutting‐edge research in spin quantum bits and quantum dot devices within the School of Physics. The School of Physics is one of Australia’s leading physics schools, offering world‐class undergraduate and postgraduate PhD programs and hosting major ARC centers. Compensation & Working Terms $113K – $121K plus 9.5% superannuation and annual leave loading Fixed term – 12 months Full‐time (35 h per week)Responsibilities Measure hole spin qubit devices at milliKelvin temperatures, develop coherent spin control techniques, and measure spin relaxation times and mechanisms. Optimise apparatus for 4K and mK testing of semiconductor quantum dot devices, using DC, EDSR, and fast gate pulse techniques. Contribute independently or as a team member in collaborative research with a focus to enhance the quality of research outcomes in the discipline area. Conduct research (as per the norms of the discipline) and/or enable research teams to create scholarly output that is recognised by peers. Undertake specific research project/s under the guidance of a research leader and contribute to development of research activities. Undertake discipline‐appropriate research activities, e.g. surveys, literature reviews, data gathering and/or recording of results using appropriate research methods. Publish and contribute to the publication of research results in leading scientific journals. Participate in and present research results in national and international conferences and forums. Assist with the supervision of research students where required and train/assist PhD students in device measurement techniques. Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values. Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others. Qualifications A PhD in a related discipline. Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments. Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision. Demonstrated record of conference presentations and publications in high quality journals. Demonstrated experience with dilution refrigerators and low noise electrical measurement techniques. Demonstrated experience with low temperature measurements of quantum devices. Experience with spin measurement and/or RF reflectometry techniques. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently in a research environment with people from diverse backgrounds. Experience in supervising and mentoring undergraduate or postgraduate research students. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
