ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY The Technical Project Manager, or known as Engineering Delivery Manager within Thales, is responsible for leading his team to the completion of engineering tasks within committed budgets, schedules, quality, and performance for successful bids and project delivery. He coordinates and monitors the implementation of all engineering tasks throughout the whole life cycle of a bid/project. KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES As an EDM, you are accountable for: Ensuring engineering activities are well managed within constraints of bids/projects, approved architecture, design policy, contracts, and company quality requirements. Leading collaborative discussions and co-engineering between internal teams, vendors, and customers to analyse, prioritise and validate stakeholders' requirements. Ensuring that engineering scope, plans, and activities satisfy customer requirements, and are delivered on time, on budget, and with the required quality. Working closely with Design Authority to oversee and approve the outcome of evaluation studies on design alternatives, and to provide advice to both the customer and internal technical teams. Ensuring the production of the required documentation in support of the project, to the satisfaction of the customer and internal senior management. Liaising with customers on technical, architectural, and procedural issues as required, ensuring that scope creep is avoided. Defining the engineering work breakdown structure, project organization structure, tasks schedule, engineering KPIs, and associated engineering tasks. Tailoring as required and ensuring all baseline requirements are met. Defining the strategy for development, build increments, validation, and project commissioning. Following up closely on defined KPIs and ensuring issues discovered (such as risks of changes, schedule, anomalies, etc.) are addressed promptly according to different project phases. Performing periodic reporting to internal senior management and customers according to Thales methodology (Chorus) and common methods such as SAFe/SCRUM. Ensuring the implementation of multi-project synergies and lessons learnt, in order to optimize cost of technical solutions. Managing engineering risks & opportunities during bids and project phase, guaranteeing program commitments, including those flown down to subcontractors and partners. Optimizing technical work against costs, schedule, and risks from design to validation and acceptance of the solution. Developing and implementing policies, standards, and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed, in conjunction with the functional Engineering Head or Director. Managing Work Package Managers (WPM) and Integration Verification, Validation and Qualification (IVVQ) Manager to ensure successful completion of respective milestones. Other duties as directed by the Project Manager or functional Engineering Head. KEY KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE To be successful in your role, you will have demonstrated and/or acquired the following knowledge and experience: Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics Engineering or related discipline. Experience working within a Systems Engineering lifecycle. Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a Senior Engineering role. Experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams. Experience in IT/security/C2/defence related projects from a Systems Engineering perspective. Good knowledge on how large projects are managed. Strong oral and written communications skills. Strong liaison and stakeholder management skills. Strong motivation to be involved in all phases of a project life cycle, from bids to project completion.
