Systems Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Systems Engineer to join our operations team, focusing on the critical "Day 2" activities of our IT infrastructure and applications. In this role, you will be responsible for the ongoing health, performance, and reliability of our production systems, identifying and resolving issues, implementing continuous improvements, and ensuring our platforms scale efficiently to meet business demands. You will work closely with development, security, and other IT teams to maintain a robust and high-performing environment.Key Responsibilities: Maintenance and Administration: Perform routine system maintenance, including applying software updates, patches, and security fixes across various operating systems (e.g., Linux, Windows) and applications.Administer and troubleshoot enterprise-level server systems, both physical and virtual (e.g., VMware ESXi, Nutanix AHV, etc).Manage and optimize enterprise storage solutions and backup systems, ensuring data integrity and recoverability.Maintain current professional certifications relevant to supported technologies. Incident Response and Troubleshooting: Lead incident response efforts, investigating root causes, coordinating with cross-functional teams (development, security), and implementing quick resolutions to minimize downtime.Develop and maintain runbooks and detailed documentation for common issues and incident resolution procedures.Participate in on-call standby rotation to provide 24/7 support for critical incidents.Conduct post-incident analyses (RCAs) to identify systemic issues and prevent recurrence. Documentation and Collaboration: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, operational procedures, architectural diagrams, and troubleshooting guides.Collaborate effectively with development teams, network engineers, security specialists, and project managers.Provide Tier II support for escalated issues and mentor junior team members. Required Skills and Qualifications: Certifications in Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 3 years of experience as a Systems Engineer or in a similar operations-focused role. Strong experience with at least one major operating system (e.g., Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Windows Server) including administration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning. Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerShell) for automation. Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Solarwinds, Securomix Datadog, etc). Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, load balancing) and network troubleshooting. Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware ESXi, Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV). Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Understanding of ITIL processes (Incident Management, Problem Management, Change Management). Preferred Qualifications: Experience with enterprise backup solutions (e.g., Commvault, Veeam). Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA, Red Hat, Microsoft, AWS, Azure, etc). Experience with database administration (SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL). Experience in a large-scale production environment.
