Secondary Humanities Teacher Role

The role of a Secondary Humanities Teacher involves teaching economics and business studies to high school students, as well as IGCSE for middle years students.

Job Description:

  • To prepare and implement the curriculum for students with the goals of developing confidence and proficiency in the subject, a love of learning, and preparation for success in the Cambridge international exams.
  • Support students in building critical and creative thinking skills through inquiry, observation, and experimentation.
  • Prepare written reports for each student, including parent conference reports, and references for onward education when applicable.
  • Maintain records and documentation of each student's learning and progress.
  • Conduct effective parent conferences including preparing detailed assessments of the student's development and providing relevant examples of the student's learning activities.
  • Engage with co-teachers through collaboration and discussion of individual students' needs and daily curriculum planning, pastoral care, and wider school life.
  • Interact with students using a positive, supportive, respectful, and open-minded attitude, language, and tone, and to support and sustain the school's codes of conduct.
  • Remain alert at all times on site to the safety and well-being of the students, and on any off-site activities.
  • Support students' social and emotional growth.
  • Encourage and provide opportunities for parents to participate in classroom experiences.
  • Recognize that as role models for young people, one's own personal conduct and the example of behavior set must be of the highest standards.
  • Prepare assessments, mock exams, coursework as required by the syllabus and school assessment calendar.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Education or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 2 years teaching experience in Humanities (Economics and Business Studies) subjects.
  • Commitment to working in an educational environment that offers academic rigor and excellence in teaching.
  • An understanding of and experience in working in an IB Programme, Cambridge IGCSE, and A Level is desirable.
  • Sound knowledge of curriculum pedagogy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Sensitivity toward cultural diversities.
  • Ability to build community through positive interactions with parents.
  • Self-motivated with a high energy level.
  • Demonstrates use of initiative while showing flexibility and adaptability.
  • A reflective practitioner with a commitment to lifelong learning and solution-focused mindset.
