Roles & Responsibilities The client is a leading shipbuilding and marine engineering firm with a strong presence in the Asia-Pacific region. Specializing in the design and construction of high-performance vessels, they serve a diverse range of sectors including commercial, defense, and offshore energy. About the Role As a Naval Architect, you will lead the technical execution of complex shipbuilding projects, ensuring engineering solutions are innovative, compliant, and aligned with project goals. You will act as the technical authority across the project lifecycle—from design validation to sea trials—ensuring quality, safety, and performance standards are met. Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership Oversee the technical integrity of vessel designs, ensuring alignment with contractual and regulatory requirements. Lead the review and approval process for major equipment and material specifications. Serve as the primary liaison with classification societies, flag states, and regulatory bodies. Resolve complex technical issues in collaboration with OEMs, clients, and certification authorities. Project Execution Manage technical deliverables across all project phases, including design, procurement, construction, and commissioning. Ensure effective weight control, inclining experiments, and lightship surveys are conducted. Define and oversee sea trial protocols, ensuring vessels meet performance benchmarks. Stakeholder Engagement Collaborate with internal teams including Engineering, Projects, Operations, and Sales to ensure seamless project delivery. Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners such as designers, suppliers, subcontractors, and clients. Represent the company in technical negotiations and regulatory discussions. Process Improvement & Innovation Identify opportunities for design optimization and process improvements. Contribute to the development of engineering standards and best practices. Support continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and project management functions. Team Collaboration & Mentorship Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering team members. Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation. Qualifications & Experience Essential Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related discipline. Minimum 10 years of experience in shipbuilding or marine engineering, with a focus on technical project management. In-depth knowledge of classification society rules and flag state regulations. Proven experience in managing technical aspects of complex marine projects. Strong negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Ability to work effectively in multicultural and cross-functional environments. Desirable Experience working across Southeast Asia and international shipyards. Familiarity with digital engineering tools and project management software. Professional certifications in project or technical management.
