Operations Technician / Senior Operations Technician
The incumbent operates all equipment and facilities in his assigned area safely and efficiently and keeps the same in good state of maintenance. He works closely in a team, keeping in close contact and in particular, highlights all items bearing on safety, quality and efficiency.
Senior Operations Technician:
The incumbent is primarily responsible for smooth, safe and efficient operations of assigned process stages. He ensures associated facilities are kept in good maintenance. He assists the production superintendent in giving work directions to technicians and deputies for the superintendent from time to time.
Key Responsibilities
Performs batch / unit or ancillary operations safely and efficiently following standard operating procedures and as necessary, leads technicians in unit operations. Takes in process samples and carries out checks using analytical instruments.
Do routine mechanical and lubrication checks and where required, carries out early maintenance and repair using hand tools.
Performs materials handling and movement using hand-pallet trucks, reach truck or other material handling equipment in a safe manner, following standard operating procedures.
Ensures that batch and operating log sheets are correctly recorded and complied.
Follows Good Documentation Practices and ALCOA+ principles when executing instructions and recording data, and adheres to Document Error management procedures if a document error is observed.
Communicates clearly with the superintendent and colleagues and at the end of the shift, hand-overs to the senior operations technician highlighting production status and any items bearing on safety, quality and efficiency.
Performs engineering-related work with technicians during process runs, plant configuration during campaign changeover or maintenance using hand-tools (e.g., filters change, equipment replacement and other plant-care type engineering work). Prepares plant and equipment for engineering maintenance.
Inspects and maintains housekeeping of the assigned area for clean and safe working conditions and ensures personal protective equipment, safety and fire-fighting equipment are maintained ready for use.
Carries out fire fighting / first-aid duties as assigned and trained.
Performs plant troubleshooting using appropriate problem-solving tools to minimize plant stoppages and safety or quality incidents.
Raises improvement ideas and implements initiatives to support department objectives.
Carries out other related duties as assigned by the superintendent, production leader or senior technicians.
Skills, Knowledge And Experience
Professional
Diploma in Chemical Process Technology, Chemical Technology or Chemical Engineering
Minimum 2 years of experience in pharmaceutical API plant
Experience in rotating shift work
Technical
Familiar with good manufacturing practices, safety procedures
Troubleshooting skills
Basic awareness of industrial standards
Good knowledge in maintenance and operating principles of production and utility equipment
Plant inspection skills (for Superintendent deputy role, as needed)
Good knowledge of Permit-to-Work systems and Risk Assessment (for Superintendent deputy role, as needed)
Correct documentation errors in accordance to existing procedures
