What the role is:
SCIENTIST/ SENIOR SCIENTIST
(PRODUCTION BIOLOGY & AQUACULTURE SYSTEMS)
Aquaculture Department, Urban Food Solutions Division
You will be part of our team that will contribute to Singapore’s aquaculture sector's resilience and growth by developing capabilities of local hatcheries in supply of quality fingerlings for local production and improve farming systems and corresponding culture protocols. In this role, you will:
Conduct R&D on aquaculture systems and protocols suited for local conditions and species farmed e.g. closed containment aquaculture systems, recirculating aquaculture systems, open net cage culture.
Improve hatchery production methods, including live feeds production, to raise industry’s capability in supplying quality fingerlings for production.
Identify cost structures of current aquaculture systems and implement technologies or innovations for production costs optimization.
Study, survey and evaluate technologies that are of relevance to local production and make recommendations to industry on how these technologies could be adopted.
Engage and collaborate with local and regional counterparts and specialists on research and innovation projects to overcome emerging technical issues related to aquaculture production.
Provide technical support and training on fish husbandry and aquaculture best practices to industry stakeholders.
Perform duties as required for the smooth operation of the Marine Aquaculture Centre.
Our requirements:
Strong scientific or research background in aquaculture, environmental engineering, marine engineering, or related field.
Experience in hatchery management and fingerling production, preferably in commercial aquaculture operations.
Strong knowledge of aquaculture technologies and best practices, with a focus on production biology and systems management.
Proficiency in data analysis and research methodologies.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with internal teams and external partners.
Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and industry trends.
Problem-solving skills and attention to detail to identify and implement innovative solutions.
Able to work in the office and field/offshore environments, including onboard sea-going vessels.
Where you are expected to work at:
Marine Aquaculture Centre (St John’s Island).
About Singapore Food Agency
The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) is a new Statutory Board formed under the ‘Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) to oversee food safety and security. The SFA will serve as the single point of contact for public feedback on food-related issues, and strengthen management of foodborne disease outbreaks to protect public health. The SFA will also facilitate more business-friendly regulations with oversight of all food safety policies and consolidation of food laboratory capabilities to deepen competencies in food diagnostics, and research and development in food safety.
