Counsellor Role

The Salvation Army has been serving the underprivileged in Singapore since 1935. Our organisation remains committed to helping those in need regardless of age, race or religion.

We meet a wide range of needs in our community through our comprehensive network of social services. These programmes reach out to children who need care and protection, families in material need, ailing aged requiring quality nursing care and other needy segments in our society.

Our spiritual ministry provides counsel to those in need, guiding them towards finding their identity and purpose in life.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a compassionate Counsellor to provide therapeutic support to children, youth, and families in our residential care and community programs. A large majority of our children and youth have a history of abuse, neglect, trauma or have a parent incarcerated.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide counselling and psychoeducation to clients (child, youth or family) dealing with trauma, family conflict, and behavioural challenges.
  • Facilitate therapeutic groups (e.g., coping skills, social-emotional learning).
  • Work closely with social workers and psychologists to implement care plans.
  • Document sessions and contribute to case reviews.
  • Support crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed.

Requirements

A Master's degree in Counselling Psychology, Clinical Mental Health Counselling, or related field is required.

Three years and above experience in counselling, preferably with cases involved in child protection, trauma or out of home care and having worked with children, youth or families is also necessary.

Necessary skills include training in modalities like Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, Play Therapy.

Ability to engage clients with complex needs is crucial.

No supervisory responsibilities—focus on direct client work.

Other Information

Standard hours (9 AM-6 PM) with evening/weekend needs.
