Pharmacy professionals are required to assist pharmacists in dispensing medication orders, including typing, packing, labelling and distributing drug supplies to hospital wards and departments.

To be successful, you will need a diploma in Pharmaceutical Science and previous experience working as a pharmacy technician. You will also require strong organisational and communication skills to ensure the smooth operation of day-to-day routine work.

The role involves:

  • Assisting pharmacists with processing medication orders for inpatient and outpatient dispensing
  • Performing billing functions and recovering outstanding bills
  • Training new staff members in cashiering and billing procedures
  • Dispensing medicines and providing patient education under pharmacist supervision
  • Monitoring stock movements and billing transactions to ensure timely record keeping
  • Reviewing and controlling inventory levels

Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the manpower allocation table to ensure adequate staffing on the floor
  • Coordinating written assessments for new or junior staff members
  • Liaising with the compounding laboratory to place and confirm extemporaneous and sterile preparation orders

Additional duties may include participating in quality control, community projects, staff welfare and recreational activities, and conducting performance appraisals for pharmacy technicians and service associates.
