The Workplace Safety and Health Officer plays a pivotal role in ensuring the well-being of employees and compliance with safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer and implement the project's safety, health, and environment management system, monitoring HSE performance.
- Contribute to implementing evidence for company system certification audits, ISO, ConSASS, BizSafe, and other applicable certifications.
- Implement, monitor, and maintain appropriate safety measures in accordance with the Workplace Health and Safety Act and statutory requirements.
- Advise the Occupier, Project Manager, or person in charge of the worksite on applicable safety, health, and environmental legislation, clients' requirements, and necessary measures.
- Implement, track, and monitor safety, health, and environment performance indicators and report on performance management as required.
- Inspect the worksite personally or direct an assistant to inspect on their behalf to identify potential risks or hazards.
- Discuss findings with site supervisors and report back to the Occupier, Project Manager, or person in charge.
- Assist in investigating accidents and identifying causes, providing recommendations for improvement.
- Investigate fatal accidents and dangerous occurrences, acting as advisor to the accident investigation committee.
- Prepare comprehensive accident reports for submission within 1 working day.
- Advise on specifications for new equipment, machinery, or plant installations.
- Act as Secretary to the WSH Committee and assist in planning its functions.
- Initiate management reviews with input from the Project Manager/Construction Manager.
- Establish emergency preparedness procedures in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- A Specialist Diploma in Workplace Safety and Health is mandatory.
- Candidate must be a registered Workplace Safety and Health Officer.
- Experience in trackwork construction projects is highly desirable.
- Preference given to candidates with lead inspector/auditor certification and experience in managing audit programs.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in various Health, Safety, and Environmental construction roles on project sites.
- A good understanding of local safety and health regulations is essential.
- Comprehensive knowledge of hazard identification is crucial.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
