Energy Projects Manager Role Description:
The role of Energy Projects Manager is a critical position in our organization, responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of energy-related projects. As an Energy Projects Manager, you will be responsible for managing interconnection of AWS data centers to the electric grid by working with utilities and local authorities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage MV & HV transmission works & substation delivery to ensure on time, on budget, and to specifications.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders including Planning, Real estate, Design, Procurement, Construction, Operations, Finance & Commissioning teams to coordinate project activities.
- Provide regular project updates to senior management and stakeholders, including progress reports, financial updates, region strategy documents, and risk assessments.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including power utilities, regulators, suppliers, contractors, and consultants.
- Undertake power due diligence for new or proposed data center sites to check power availability and feasibility.
- Interface with power utilities and regulatory bodies to obtain necessary approvals and permits for project implementation.
- Managing utility contracts/retail agreements – entering into connection agreement; contracting the right capacity to optimize on power purchase costs.
- Work with utility regulators to develop policies and guidelines that enable broader AWS strategies and objective.
- Study, understand, and have view on regional power infrastructure network and utility planning and changes to the broader power infrastructure.
- Manage capital budgets for electrical infrastructure improvements.
- Identify and develop innovative cost savings projects and initiatives related to power infrastructure and supply.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) required in Engineering/Business or other technical field.
- 4 plus years working in utility/renewables/energy industry in a commercial/business development or technical role.
- 2 plus years of managing multiple million dollar infrastructure projects with external stakeholders to drive projects to completion.
- Experience in budgeting and analyzing cost/benefit trade-offs across a strategic portfolio.
