Senior Climate Research Scientist

The Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Earth Observatory of Singapore is a research institute that conducts fundamental studies on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and climate change in Southeast Asia. Our goal is to create safer and more sustainable societies.
As a highly motivated Research Fellow, you will work under the supervision of Prof Adam Switzer to investigate novel approaches to future tropical cyclone prediction in the Asia Pacific. You will apply statistical techniques to enable policymakers and planners to understand plausible worst-case scenarios with rising sea levels and changing climates.
We're looking for a collaborative individual with a passion for learning, who would enjoy working with people from diverse disciplines. Your task will be to connect the dots between components.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct computer simulations by modeling components of sea-level rise, cyclogenesis, and their inter-dependencies.
- Interface with climate modeling experts and insurance industry partners on relevant data for modeling and analysis of future cyclone risk.
- Manage, analyze, and interpret complex datasets using the latest methodologies and tools for accurate and efficient data processing.
- Collaborate with experts across various disciplines, integrating datasets to enhance understanding of scientific predictions of sea-level rise.
- Develop key case studies that inform policy decisions, emphasizing practical applications of research findings in risk management and mitigation strategies.
- Prepare research outputs in formats accessible to policymakers, risk stakeholders, and the broader community, ensuring clear and effective communication of complex scientific information.
- Present, publish, and communicate research results in scientific meetings, scholarly journals, and other platforms, contributing to the broader scientific discourse.
You will also provide guidance and support to junior team members, students, and research assistants, fostering an environment of learning and professional growth.
Job Requirements:- A Ph.D. in Coastal Engineering, Climate Science, or a related field.
- Postdoctoral experience is an advantage.
- Strong fundamentals of climate variability and change, geoscience, atmospheric science, physical oceanography, and meteorological observations.
- Expertise and interests in climate modeling, data analysis, and statistical methods.
- A track record of publishing research relevant to the position in international recognized journals.
- Evidence of excellent communication skills.
- Evidence of independence in research direction and team spirit.
