Job Description

The Case Management Officer will complement the work of doctors in delivering care to patients with a personal or family history of birth defects or genetic disorders.

  • Conduct intake of information from patients, construct a complete pedigree and present pertinent medical and genetic information to the healthcare team.
  • Apply knowledge of genetics and genetic disorders to convey complex genetic concepts to patients.
  • Evaluate genetic information to identify patients at risk for specific genetic disorders.
  • Assess family dynamics and identify emotional responses from the patient.

Counsel patients by providing them with information on options available, such as genetic testing, disease management, and prevention. Facilitate decision-making in a non-directive manner and provide resources for support and opportunities in research programs.
