The Role
  • Improve software engineering practices within a team and contribute to product development by sharing code, reducing complexity, and implementing new practices.
  • Mentor and grow junior software engineers, acting as a go-to person within the team and the wider organisation across multiple codebases and languages.
Key Responsibilities
  • Advocate for quality with proactive actions and tackle difficult system issues.
  • Use systematic debugging to diagnose complex issues and lead a culture of observability and monitoring.
  • Work across teams to foster iterative, autonomous development and future scaling.
  • Be a technical leader and prioritisation expert across related domains, pushing boundaries and exploring understanding gaps.
  • Review specifications produced by architects and formal methods specialists.
  • Lead component design and interactions.
  • Fix critical issues, verify and deploy programs, and write documentation.
Requirements
  • Degree in Computer Science (desirable but not essential).
  • 10+ years of Haskell software engineering experience.
  • Experience working with Git and Git workflow.
  • Ability to understand project needs, objectives, and timescales.
  • Articulate new issues, suggest changes, and write idiomatic code.
Desirable Skills
  • Maintain large and complex codebases.
  • Understand scientific research and apply it to software design and implementation.
  • A deep understanding of distributed systems.
  • Prior experience with blockchain technology (advantageous but not required).
  • Debugging Haskell performance problems.
