Medical Laboratory Technologist Job Overview

The Medical Laboratory Technologist is responsible for performing and supervising blood collection, ensuring specimens are properly labeled and dispatched to the laboratory in accordance with protocols and standard universal precautions.

  • They will navigate the laboratory information system to perform order entry, sample receipt, result query, and result entry functions as required.
  • The successful candidate will collaborate with stakeholders to improve workflow and processes of the section, including lab, nursing, clinicians, and admin teams.
  • They will perform laboratory tests or POCT if assigned, adhering to laboratory protocols. Alert personnel of critical values with relevant documentation.
  • The Medical Laboratory Technologist will undertake preventive maintenance on laboratory instrumentation and safety equipment, notifying personnel when instruments malfunction.
Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent qualification.
  • At least 5 years' experience in performing venipuncture for blood specimen collection and 3 years of clinical laboratory experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Basic computer literacy and proficiency in laboratory information systems.
