Manager, VFX Art

Our team is seeking a skilled and experienced Visual Effects (VFX) artist to join our League of Legends team. As a Manager, VFX Art, you will be responsible for guiding the conception and implementation of the VFX style.


In this role, you will work closely with the Associate Art Director to implement a VFX style that fits within the art pillars and punctuates the game design. You will also mentor and level-up the craft and game developer skills of your VFX team.

As a Lead VFX on the Skins team, you will support the VFX artists in creating high-quality, stylized real-time VFX. You will work with Product Leads, Delivery Leads, Stakeholders, and the Associate Art Director to stay aligned on vision and priorities.

You will provide direction for the VFX and art team, set a clear vision, and build trust with your team. You will balance visual satisfaction and gameplay clarity to ensure amazing effects represent a given action or state.

Craft aesthetically astounding visual effects that communicate essential game information and bring together the essence of characters. Use your understanding of visual effects to combine brand new assets and classic designs elegantly.

">Responsibilities:
  • Provide direction for the VFX and art team
  • Set a clear vision, provide consistent feedback, and build trust with your team
  • Balance visual satisfaction and gameplay clarity to ensure amazing effects represent a given action or state
  • Craft aesthetically astounding visual effects that communicate essential game information and bring together the essence of characters
  • Use your understanding of visual effects to combine brand new assets and classic designs elegantly
  • Find creative solutions to eliminate hard problems in production and as-needed
  • Provide as-needed support of all aspects of VFX process; from set-up through production and troubleshooting
  • Strong leadership in holding the team accountable to the creation of high-quality work and performance management
  • Provide hands on craft support to the product where needed
  • Find creative and effective solutions to eliminate difficult problems in production and as-needed
  • Be an available resource for other products seeking clarity on Skins/Cosmetic Assets VFX/Metagames
  • Support the Associate Art Director on emergent tasks where needed
  • Build and maintain a healthy VFX team
">Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of professional experience in the video games industry as VFX
  • Advanced skills in 3D/2D Software - Maya, 3DS Max, Photoshop
  • Experience creating high-quality, stylized real-time VFX
  • Shipped titles as a Senior or Lead VFX Artist
  • High proficiency in VFX development, including fundamentals like timing, shape language, color theory and mesh engineering
  • Knowledge of the MOBA genre, ideally League of Legends, as it pertains to game design, isometric content and visual clarity
  • Familiarity with the League of Legends IP and skins universes
  • Expertise in hand-painted stylized VFX
