Job Description

As a Robotics Application Engineer at AbbVie, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing robotic automation systems to enhance site operations and labor productivity. This role plays a critical part in the realization of the Factory of the Future vision, ensuring efficient and reliable systems while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Design and Commission Phase
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to analyze user needs and develop tailored robotic systems, improving labor productivity, process consistency, and safety performance.
  • Create and develop robotic systems, selecting suitable hardware and software components, and sourcing external vendors and system integrators as required.
  • Develop project schedules and work closely with cross-functional teams and external vendors to execute work plans, deliverables, resources, and budget.
  • Lead the installation, commissioning, and validation/qualifications of new/modified robotic systems.
  • Design, debug, and code automation machine software applications, including machine control, robot control, and vision inspection systems.
  • Troubleshoot technical challenges during commissioning and create/revise SOPs, training curriculum, and conduct training for end-users and supporting functions.
  • Work with EHS and Quality Partners to develop/revised safety and quality risk assessments for integrated robotic systems.
Operation and Maintenance Phase
  • Ensure seamless integration of robotic systems, integrating various components and subsystems to create a cohesive operation.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring robotic system uptime, coordinating with other departments to align with overall business objectives.
  • Develop and implement maintenance programs for integrated robotic systems, working with colleagues from other engineering disciplines to meet site maintenance KPI.
  • Support troubleshooting, investigation, and improvement of production process equipment, systems related to quality and safety issues.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols, conducting regular safety audits and risk assessments.
  • Provide training and support to team members and staff on robotic system use and maintenance, developing training materials and conducting workshops as needed.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of robotic systems, including design specifications, maintenance records, and performance reports.
Continuous Improvements
  • Engage internal stakeholders and external vendors to explore automation opportunities and advise on robotic and automation possibilities.
  • Regularly update and optimize software controlling robotic systems, troubleshooting and resolving software-related issues.
  • Manage the budget for robotic operations, identifying cost-saving opportunities and implementing strategies to reduce expenses without compromising quality or performance.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in robotics technology, conducting research and development to introduce new technologies and methodologies.
