Job Title: Play Therapist

About the Role:
Fei Yue Family Service Centre is seeking a qualified Play Therapist to provide play therapy services to children and pre-teens who have experienced abuse, neglect, and/or family violence. As a Play Therapist, you will work closely with child protection caseworkers, families, and a clinical supervisor to provide a safe and nurturing environment for these children.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide play therapy sessions to children and pre-teens presenting with behavioural and emotional difficulties due to attachment injury, trauma, losses, and adjustment.
  • Work with caregivers to equip them with knowledge and skills to support children coping with emotional stress or trauma.
  • Conduct parent-child sessions to enhance recovery and promote healthy family dynamics.
  • Maintain play therapy rooms and materials, ensuring a safe and hygienic environment for clients.
  • Document therapy sessions, progress, reviews, and provide regular updates to caseworkers.
  • Participate in case conferences, family meetings, to support caseworkers and the children/parents.
  • Participate in individual and group supervisions, and attend team/department meetings to stay updated on best practices and share knowledge.

Requirements:
  • A recognised Play Therapy certification, in addition to a degree in social work, counselling, early childhood care and education, psychology, or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with Association of Play Therapy (Singapore) or a recognised professional body.
  • Minimum one year of experience working with vulnerable children and families, including play therapy services.
  • Knowledge of children's developmental needs and trauma is an advantage.
  • Experience working in the social service sector, with a strong understanding of child protection and family support services.
  • Good interpersonal, writing, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Able to work one evening a week or occasional weekends, and travel to offsite locations to conduct play therapy sessions.
  • Willingness to learn and use different therapy modalities given the wide range of presentations of clients.
