Job Title: Senior Legal Counsel - Debt Capital Markets

HSBC is seeking a highly skilled Senior Legal Counsel to join our Debt Capital Markets team in South-East Asia and India. As a key member of our global legal function, you will play a critical role in providing expert legal advice and support to our business.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal and transactional advisory support to HSBC's Debt Capital Markets business, ensuring that legal and reputational risks are proactively identified and mitigated.
  • Assist with the preparation, negotiation, and review of legal documentation, including confidentiality agreements, engagement letters, and transactional documentation.
  • Ensure that the legal function serves as a proactive and strategic partner to the business, providing innovative and commercially sound solutions.
  • Coordinate and manage relationships between internal and external stakeholders, including external clients, professional advisors, and agency/trustee teams.
  • Collaborate with internal lawyers across the Asia Pacific region, providing support, leadership, and subject matter expertise as required.
  • Provide legal input on local, regional, and global legal projects, promoting the adoption of best practice and documentation standards.
  • Monitor major legislative changes and assess their impact on HSBC's business.
Requirements:
  • Qualified lawyer with solid post-qualification experience of at least 4 years gained in a relevant jurisdiction.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with debt capital markets transactions, including primary issuance of vanilla bonds and capital securities.
  • Understanding of cross-border financing issues and documentation in SE Asia markets and India, as well as market practices and processes.
  • Ability to prioritize and work under time pressure, with strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Lateral thinking and problem-solving ability.
