XCL World Academy is seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Support Specialist to join our team. As a Laboratory Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting the instructional program and assisting key stakeholders.
The role involves maintaining laboratory equipment and materials, ensuring a clean work area, and overseeing safety procedures. You will work closely with students, teachers, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality learning experiences.
Main Responsibilities:
- Maintain laboratory equipment and materials in proper working order and ensure a clean work area.
- Oversee safety procedures, including handling and disposing of hazardous chemicals.
- Carry out risk assessments to ensure that all health and safety procedures are understood and followed correctly.
- Support teachers with demonstrations of experiments to students and run trial experiments prior to classes.
- Assist students with research projects and provide support to faculty with experiments, administration and coordination duties.
- Familiar and confident to use specialized Science laboratory materials and equipment.
- Follow and abide by Workplace Safety and Health guidelines.
- Liaise with the Head of Science Department and Science teachers to discuss timetables, equipment requirements and work plans.
- Attend Science and Math Department meetings.
- Prepare Purchase Orders for resources needed.
- Responsible for handling Petty Cash and liaising with the Science team on items needed to purchase.
- Prepare chemicals ahead of time before they are required for lab practical classes.
- Ensure the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced.
- Familiar with the use of Lab probes and other specialized equipment.
- Familiar with fire and emergency procedures.
Person Specifications:
- Bachelors in Science/Engineering or other relevant qualification specific to the role.
- Minimum 2 years in a similar role, preferably in an international school setting.
- Proficient in Google, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
- Knowledgeable in handling and preparing chemicals, excellent scientific and technical knowledge and working practices.
- Demonstrated track record of being a successful Laboratory Support Specialist from an established international school.
- Understands and adapts to diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Demonstrated understanding of the needs of international students.
- Goes beyond expectations in supporting students' ambitions and goals.
- Organized, proactive and solution-focused.
- Able to work well in teams and create positive relationships with all members of the school community.
