Job Title: Assistant Manager - Mechanical & Propulsion

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Manager - Mechanical & Propulsion to join our team at ST Engineering. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the Mechanical Department and ensuring the smooth execution and timely completion of projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take charge of the Mechanical Department and oversee operational and technical work and processes.
  • Responsible for mechanical work in regards to repairs and conversions of commercial vessels.
  • Ensure production processes are carried out effectively and productively to meet specifications and quality expectations of customers.
  • Deploy and assign projects to supervisors.
  • Ensure all Mechanical jobs are completed and meeting undocking schedule.
  • Evaluate and assess staff work performance under his charge.
  • Assess on-board or in-workshop work progress, verify against reported work progress.
  • Planning of department manpower projections.
  • Identify training needs for subordinates.
  • Manage departmental staff upgrading training and knowledge in ship repairing.
  • Manage departmental improvement processes to improve quality of work.
  • Monitor and review departmental RA, SOC and hazard reporting program.
  • Implement divisional and departmental safety work plan.
  • Perform safety audits on departmental safety practices and employees.
  • Check and monitor of sub-contractor working hour.

Requirements:

  • Degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Preferably 4 to 8 years of working experiences in shipyard or marine industry.
  • Good knowledge and experience in following: Propulsion, Shaft Alignment, Thrusters, CPP.
  • Chief Engineers of sailing vessels looking for permanent shore based role are welcome to apply.
  • Experience in managing workers, customers and work schedule.
  • Good knowledge and exposure of ship repair/conversion projects.
  • Able to handle customers, both internal and external.
  • Resourceful and able to adapt to changes on short notice.
  • Ability to continuously review current jobs and inject new ideas to improve work methods.
  • Able to work under pressure.
  • Possess leadership quality with managerial skills.
  • Able to work on-board vessels and at height.

Other Information:

  • Location: Tuas Road (Island-wide transport provided).
  • 5 days work week.
  • Working Hours: 7.25am to 5.00pm.
