Job Overview

The position of Laboratory Assistant plays a pivotal role in supporting the daily operations of our science labs and rooftop garden. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing materials for science lessons, setting up apparatus and materials for internal performance tasks, and assisting with invigilation during practical exams.

In addition to these duties, the successful candidate will work closely with the Operations Support Officer to maintain the general cleanliness of the science labs and rooftop garden, manage stock records and equipment lists, ensure adherence to safety protocols, and upkeep the condition of the facilities.

This role also involves collaborating with teachers on science-related events, such as the Discover Science event, STEM Carnival, and Hydroponics. Furthermore, the candidate will perform routine maintenance and servicing of equipment, arrange repairs where necessary, care for fauna and flora within the science department, and undertake other assigned tasks.

Key Qualifications and Skills
  • Specific knowledge of laboratory equipment, chemical preparation, disposal procedures, and spill cleanup processes.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of classroom procedures and ability to work effectively in a school environment.
  • Documenting and summarizing information, attention to detail, providing guidance and instructions, organizational skills, time management, and experience working in a primary school lab setting.
